Cancer researchers work with large and complex data sets, and data commons can make it easier to access, share, and analyze them. NCI’s Cancer Research Data Commons (CRDC) is a cloud-based infrastructure that brings together cancer research data and analytical resources.  

Dr. Tanja Davidsen is chief of the Data Ecosystem Branch in NCI’s Center for Bioinformatics and Information Technology (CBIIT) and leads the NCI team developing the CRDC. In a new Questions Answered blog, she discusses how data commons differ from data repositories, how they support cancer research, the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), and best practices for managing large-scale biomedical data sets.
